“When we specified the bins with Taltech, we worked with their designers to include a finish that was easy to clean from a maintenance point of view and looks well from an appearance perspective. We’ve received nothing but positive comments and the housekeeping team are very happy with them.”

Background

When Trinity College was implementing its’ new recycling programme, the older bins needed to be replaced and the decision was taken to install better recycling solutions. Facilities Officer, Noel Mc Cann says “We wanted a new higher quality product for our prestigious, high footfall buildings so we were looking for attractive facilities that were also robust.” A tender process was implemented and Taltech quoted for the business. “We started the tender process before Christmas and we needed to purchase a substantial number of ‘lots’ fairly quickly to roll out the new recycling scheme”.

Supplier Selection

“We chose Taltech as they had the right experience and we found Jimmy and Brian to be very positive, helpful and constructive. They went over minor but important details very thoroughly. The fact that they could customize bins for our exact needs made a difference.  It wasn’t the cheapest solution because of the quality of the materials and finishes – we could have sourced cheaper bins - but the combination of quality and price is what we wanted, it represented value for money over the whole lifecycle of the bins.”

Design Input

Noel engaged the cleaning staff in the process of specifying the recycling products that would be required. “We needed the housekeeping staff to be engaged in the process of designing the product – to give feedback from a manual-handling and ergonomic point of view. Once we had their views, we liaised with Jimmy and Brian and came up with little adjustments that made a big difference. They were willing to change the product by putting on lockable castors, for example and they had a list of options and alternatives to help the performance of the unit – so we could match what we needed with the choices available and build something specific to Trinity.”

On a practical level, Noel found the proximity of the business to Trinity useful, “They are only 10 minutes up the road therefore the logistics were good and they were easy to get in touch with”.

Positive Feedback on Performance

Since the bins were installed, there has been plenty of positive comments from the housekeeping staff and users of the facilities. “They look great and have been really well-received by everyone. When we specified the bins with Taltech, we worked with their designers to include a finish that was easy to clean from a maintenance point of view and looks well from an appearance perspective. We’ve received nothing but positive comments and the housekeeping team are very happy with them”.

Future Plans

Noel is more than satisfied with the outcome “On top of the added value in terms of bespoke design and the high quality service, everything was delivered on time and within the agreed budget. We have already re-ordered and I can see us ordering more product from Taltech in the future.”
