“When I documented the spec., Taltech was the only company that ticked all of the boxes so it was great that they came in cheaper too”.
Background
Kathryn Hanley, the Practice Development Nurse in the Prevention and Control of Infection CNS at St. Patricks Hospital, was responsible for sourcing new bins and hazardous waste cabinets when the hospital facilities were being re-developed. “I was familiar with other suppliers however I heard about Taltech as they had supplied bins to another local hospital. When I documented the spec., Taltech was the only company that ticked all of the boxes so it was great that they came in cheaper too”.
Despite meeting the spec. on paper Kathryn was glad to have the opportunity for a free trial “This helped with the decision-making process as Taltech already had an excellent client list but the free trial minimised the risk for us.”
Infection Control Considerations
The bins that were supplied were hands free and also silent closing. Kathryn says
“Both of these features are very important for infection control. People instinctively opened the old bins with their hands but these are fitted with a foot pedal. Other features included fire resistance, bin wheels, the bins are also raised off the floor to facilitate cleaning under the unit and moving the unit. There are also child-proofing features and the bins are non-rusting.”
Waste Disposal Expertise
A considerable amount of planning went into the location and type of waste disposal units required and the hospital benefited from Taltech’s experience in this regard “Jimmy did a walk-about and advised us on things like having stainless steel bins in the wet areas and the kitchens - so we were just as happy with the sales support and service as we were with the products.”
Advice was also given in terms of the content and format of labelling for the bins. “Taltech added value by doing the screening and labelling for the top of the bins, which identify what type of waste can be disposed of into each one, this integral labelling is better than stickers, which are hard to clean.”
Hands On Service
Over the course of the development of the new hospital facilities, Kathryn had to work with many suppliers for different aspects of the project and she felt that Taltech offered a far superior service to many other providers
“The service was very hands-on; it stood out compared to others. Jimmy was on the spot for the first delivery, unpacking, managing the installation and taking away the waste packaging afterwards. Also everything arrived when it should and exactly as we ordered it.”
Soon after the installation, a specialist Healthcare company did a site survey and audited the waste disposal and recycling facilities, under EPA funding and the installation was approved “there was nothing they suggested that should be improved in terms of the Taltech products and their positioning so I felt Taltech had done a great job.”
